Tow Yard Shooting in Florida, Suspect Caught after Fleeing

There was a tow yard shooting in Florida as a woman tried to claim a vehicle.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the shooting that occurred at a towing facility on SE Cove Road. A woman from Miami arrived at the tow yard to claim a vehicle that had been towed there earlier in the day, according to local law enforcement.

Shortly after, individuals in another vehicle arrived at the facility, and the two parties became involved in an altercation. The Miami woman then retrieved a firearm and fired multiple shots at the other individuals before getting into a vehicle and fleeing the area, according to law enforcement.

Because the tow yard is located about a half-mile from Murray Middle School, the Sheriff’s office immediately activated an active-shooter response and placed the school on lockout at the time as deputies responded to the scene.

Road Patrol deputies, Aviation, detectives and other available units quickly began searching for the suspect vehicle, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies located the vehicle traveling on Cove Road near U.S. 1 and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver fled, and deputies subsequently performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Additional units moved in and successfully immobilized the vehicle before the driver could flee again.

The individuals who were targeted by the gunfire had left the area before deputies arrived. At the time, it was unclear whether any of them were struck by gunfire according to law enforcement.

The female driver was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s office, where detectives questioned her.
