Residents of a quiet Bucks County neighborhood were startled awake by gunfire early Friday morning after armed suspects allegedly opened fire during an attempted vehicle theft.
The gunfire erupted around 4 a.m. in Croydon, where neighbors said suspects fired shots at a resident who interrupted them trying to steal his vehicle.
The suspects were unsuccessful in stealing that vehicle, but neighbors said at least two other vehicles were stolen during the incident.
Several bullets struck nearby property, including a Dodge vehicle, a garage wall and another home. Some of the bullets pierced the side of the Dodge, while others became lodged in the garage wall.
One of the stolen vehicles belonged to Kyle Brooks, who said he had purchased his truck just days before the incident.
Brooks relied on the truck for his roofing and siding business and said it contained tools, valuable equipment and paperwork. The truck’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Despite the loss, Brooks said he is more concerned about the suspects’ willingness to open fire in a residential neighborhood than he is about replacing his vehicle.
“They can have it is. It is what it is. It’s just a shame that you’ve got to fire shots off for innocent people just because you’re annoyed, you’re mad that you couldn’t get another vehicle,” Brooks said.
Brooks is urging neighbors to remain vigilant following the incident.
He and other residents on the block have video footage of what happened, and Brooks said he filed a police report with Bristol Township police.
It remains unclear how many suspects police are looking for.
