FIFA and Infantino want to offer 25 million to each member

FIFA will propose a development plan worth $6.35 billion for the next four years at its Council meeting on Thursday, AFP learned on Wednesday from a source close to the matter.

To finance the increase in this development fund for the 2027-2030 cycle, which would make it possible to distribute money to its 211 federations as well as to regional confederations, FIFA would draw partly from its financial reserves after a commercially triumphant 2026 World Cup.

This plan would notably allow the payment of 25 million dollars to each of its 211 member federations, a large increase compared to previous forecasts.

This announcement would come a month after the request from Aleksander Ceferin, the president of the European confederation (UEFA), and Victor Montagliani, that of Concacaf (confederation of North America and the Caribbean), that FIFA pay “at least 10 million dollars” additional to each federation.

The plan must be validated on Thursday in Zurich, where FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the 36 other members of the Council, the executive of the world football body, are meeting behind closed doors from 11:00 a.m. (French).

This meeting of the Council, the first since April 28, comes in a context of crisis in the governance of world football, after the announcement this summer by Infantino of his desire to open Fifa to private investors.

This plan was finally abandoned in the face of numerous criticisms from the world of football, with a revolt led by UEFA, Concacaf, and the AFC (Asia).

At the end of September, Infantino launched a consultation for the federations to reform the functioning of the world body, announcing that the first proposals could be studied at the Council on Thursday.

The 56-year-old Italian-Swiss-Lebanese, boss of Fifa since 2016, is a candidate for re-election in March 2027. His opponents have so far failed to agree on a candidate: Ceferin is a candidate for a new mandate at the head of UEFA, and according to several media Montagliani should do the same at Concacaf. The deadline for submitting applications is November 18.
